Following a concerning confrontation between police officers and civil defense officials in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for an urgent State Security Council meeting.
The meeting, according to a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, is scheduled for next week and aims to assess the situation, receive briefings from security agencies, and take necessary actions.
Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, who previously intervened in the matter, will lead the meeting alongside top state officials.
Adeleke expressed surprise at the open brawl between the two security agencies, urging them to strictly adhere to their operational codes in law enforcement.
He also noted rising cases of police-civilian confrontations across the state, urging all service commanders to enforce discipline within their ranks to sustain the widely recognized civil-security cordial relationship in the state.
While warning against high-handedness in law enforcement, the Governor further urged all stakeholders to avoid actions that could jeopardize Osun State’s reputation as the most peaceful state in the federation.
He said, “I task our commanders to enforce discipline and operational rules among their personnel. Rogue operations are increasing, civilian harassment is on the rise, and now service-to-service confrontation is added. We must restore normalcy.
“All these urgent matters will be tackled at the next Security Council meeting. Our service commanders have been outstanding. We must not relax in our quest to restore closer inter-agency partnership and collaboration.”
