Osun State Governor, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke, alongside his deputy and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, will officially flag off the remodeling of the Osogbo Township Stadium on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
The groundbreaking ceremony, set to take place at the stadium complex, marks the beginning of a transformative project aimed at repositioning Osogbo as a major sporting hub in Nigeria.
The Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Special Needs, Mr. Layi Adesiyan, and the General Manager of the Osun State Sports Council, Mr. Rotimi Dunmoye, disclosed this while addressing the media.
They added that the event would also feature a special cash award presentation to athletes who have made the state proud in various competitions.

This initiative aligns with Governor Adeleke’s vision for sports development in Osun State. In late 2024, the governor approved the remodeling of the multi-purpose stadium, which is already undergoing major renovations and is expected to be fully completed by mid-2026.
Features of the Upgraded Osogbo Township Stadium:
- Two artificial turf fields
- One grass pitch
- An artificial hockey pitch
- A multipurpose indoor sports hall
- Two tartan tracks
- A squash court
- A swimming pool
- Hostels and a hotel for athletes and visitors
- Covered seating for the main bowl pitch
- A shopping complex to boost local economic activities
This upgrade will not only provide world-class sports facilities but also contribute significantly to the economic and social growth of Osun State by attracting athletes, sports enthusiasts, and businesses from across the country.
The flag-off event will be attended by cabinet members, members of the Osun State House of Assembly led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Abiola Jeremiah Awoyeye, and other key stakeholders in the sports industry.
The Osun State Sports Council urges all sports lovers, athletes, and well-meaning citizens to participate in celebrating this historic development, which marks a new era for sports in Osun State.
