Governor Adeleke warns police, Amotekun against lone security operations
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has warned the Police authorities and the Amotekun Corps against operating independently in addressing security challenges, insisting that lack of coordination among security agencies will no longer be tolerated.
The warning followed an emergency State Security Council meeting in Osogbo, where Adeleke disclosed that military-backed rescue and protection operations have been ongoing for the past three days after a banditry attack in Ora Igbomina, Ifedayo Local Government Area.
Adeleke, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, ordered an operational meeting between the police and Amotekun leadership to prevent further security breaches and possible spillover from Kwara State.
He emphasised that Amotekun operations should always involve the police to ensure synergy and proper support.
“As part of our security plan, we will soon deploy refurbished armoured tanks for operations across the state. We are also procuring patrol vehicles to strengthen police and security operations. Additionally, we are reviewing the joint security patrol programme, which will be unveiled at the right time,” he added.
Adeleke lamented the unfortunate Akinlalu incident and said the Amotekun service has learned lessons, even as the law takes its course, affirming its importance in tackling new security challenges.
He also urged the public to reduce late-night activities, noting that criminals often target gatherings during the yuletide period.
“We need to stick to daytime events to further protect ourselves and ensure the safety of our communities,” he concluded.
