Governor Aiyedatiwa pledges development, progress at swearing-in ceremony

Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has been officially sworn in as the seventh democratically elected Governor of Ondo State, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s development.
Addressing a gathering at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, Aiyedatiwa outlined his vision for the state, promising transformative policies under a new development agenda, O’Datiwa O’Dirorun (Our Ease).

In his inaugural speech, Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to his late predecessor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a leader whose dedication and foresight paved the way for the state’s progress.
“We must not forget this courageous and personable leader who emptied himself in the service of Ondo State and Nigeria,” he said, reflecting on Akeredolu’s contributions and public endorsement of his leadership four years ago.

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the overwhelming support received from the people of Ondo State during the November 16, 2024, election, where he and his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, secured victory across all 18 local government areas.
“The incredible show of love must never be taken for granted,” he declared, assuring the people of his commitment to good governance.

Despite political turbulence following Akeredolu’s illness and passing, Aiyedatiwa highlighted his administration’s efforts over the past 14 months in restoring public confidence. He pointed to achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, revenue generation, and education as a foundation for future growth.

Under the O’Datiwa O’Dirorun policy, the governor unveiled a seven-point plan to drive sustainable development and improve residents’ quality of life:
- Order, Security, and the Rule of Law – Strengthening security agencies, enhancing intelligence gathering, and promoting an independent judiciary to ensure safety and justice.
- Urban and Rural Development through Agriculture and the Blue Economy – Expanding agricultural investments, improving market access, and leveraging coastal resources for economic growth.
- Revolutionary Technological Advancement and Industrialization – Developing special economic zones, promoting entrepreneurship, and revitalizing technical education to create job opportunities.
- Efficient Healthcare and Socioeconomic Welfare – Strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding the state health insurance scheme, and improving access to quality medical services.
- Adequate Power and Affordable Energy – Enhancing power supply through renewable energy and ensuring the completion of the state’s Independent Power Plant at Omotosho.
- Sustainable Infrastructure and Tourism – Transforming Ondo State into a prime tourist destination while investing in roads and eco-friendly infrastructure.
- Education, Human Capital Development, and Entrepreneurship – Prioritizing investment in schools, vocational training, and youth empowerment to drive innovation and economic competitiveness.
Governor Aiyedatiwa called for unity, emphasizing that his administration would work closely with the legislative and judicial arms of government to ensure efficient governance. He also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support, particularly for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which he described as a project that would significantly boost the state’s economy.
He further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) for conducting free and fair elections, reaffirming confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
As he concluded his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa appealed for peace and cooperation among residents. “Development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace,” he stated, urging citizens to work together for a prosperous and united Ondo State.
