Governor Eno promises unity, talent discovery at forthcoming sports festival

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has emphasized that the forthcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival will promote regional unity, sports tourism, and talent discovery across the region.
In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, Governor Eno applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other sponsors for their support in bringing the event to fruition.
The festival, set to begin on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, is aimed at celebrating athletic excellence and sportsmanship within the Niger Delta region.
Governor Eno welcomed participants to Akwa Ibom State, highlighting that the state’s renowned warmth, hospitality, and culinary expertise make it an ideal host.
He assured visitors that the state has the necessary infrastructure and facilities to provide a memorable experience throughout the week-long event.
The festival is expected to feature 3,400 athletes, 560 coaches, 418 officials, and 17 sports categories. Events will be held at several prominent venues, including the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo Township Stadium, Nwaniba Marina, Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, Ultra Fit Sports Centre, West Itam Secondary School, and Cornelia Connely College Uyo.
Governor Eno highlighted that the festival would provide a platform for discovering future champions who could represent Nigeria on both national and international stages.
He also called on citizens and residents to participate in the celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence, stating, “Welcome to Akwa Ibom—the land of promise and home of hospitality and tourism.”
