Governor Eno receives torch to launch Niger Delta Sports Festival

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially received the symbolic torch to commence the Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo.

The torch was presented to him at the Government House, Uyo, by renowned Olympic medalist Aniefiok Udobong. Expressing gratitude, Governor Eno appreciated the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for granting the state the honor of hosting the prestigious event.

He highlighted the festival’s significance in talent discovery and regional unity, stating, “I deeply appreciate the integrative nature of the sports festival, as it will help unite and bring the entire region together for our common good.”

The symbolic handover ceremony was witnessed by members of the State Executive Council, underscoring the importance of the event to the state government.

Chairman of the festival planning committee, Alabo Boma Iyaye, described the event as the first of its kind in Nigeria’s South-South region.

He revealed that over 4,000 athletes from across the Niger Delta states would compete in various sporting disciplines for medals.

The festival is expected to not only boost sports development but also strengthen ties among the participating states.
