Governor Makinde rallies Yoruba leaders to prioritise unity over politics

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has rallied Yoruba leaders to prioritise unity irrespective of political affiliations.

Makinde made the call on Saturday at the installation of Chief Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun, wife of a former Governor of Ogun State, as Yeye Moremi Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at his palace.

The governor said Yorubaland should remain a unifying platform beyond partisan politics, noting that the gathering reflected collective identity and shared purpose.

He said, “Today at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, this is Yorubaland, where there is nothing like APC or PDP; we are all together. This is what we should strive for in the interest of the Yoruba nation. If you can gather us all here, it means there is hope for Yorubaland”.

In her remarks, Chief Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun said the title comes with responsibility and pledged to use it in service to humanity.

She pledged to carry out her duties with dignity, compassion and humility, while seeking divine guidance to make meaningful impact.

The new titleholder expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the honour and said she would endeavour to continually make him proud.

Dignitaries at the event included her husband, Ibikunle Amosun; former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola; Gbenga Daniel; the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority, Gbenga Ashafa; businessman, Kessington Adebutu; and former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
