Governor Makinde shifts focus to project completion as tenure winds down

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced that his administration will stop initiating major capital projects by the end of September 2025, focusing instead on completing all ongoing developments before the end of his tenure.

Speaking during a luncheon to commemorate Hijrah 1447 at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, the governor emphasized the need for prudent management of time and resources as his administration enters its final phase.

Makinde stated that no significant new projects would be approved beyond the September deadline, stressing his commitment to avoid leaving behind abandoned or incomplete infrastructure. He reiterated that the government’s priority is to finish what has already been started.

Among the projects highlighted was the reconstruction of the Okaka–Igbojaiye–Kunle Afolayan Film Village Road, which he confirmed had received full approval and would be completed before the administration’s exit. “When the road is completed, we will commission it alongside Kunle Afolayan,” he added.

The governor also disclosed that an aircraft previously proposed by his administration has now been purchased, though he did not provide further details. The procurement, he said, is part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and service delivery.

Reflecting on the significance of Hijrah, Makinde called on residents to embrace virtues such as self-discipline, perseverance, and unity. He credited the peaceful atmosphere in Oyo State to the prayers and cooperation of the Muslim community.

Makinde shared personal insights into his religious upbringing, noting that he comes from a mixed-faith family—his grandfather was a Muslim while his father was a Christian. He said this background shaped his belief in religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

The governor concluded by urging Islamic leaders and citizens to continue offering prayers and constructive advice to the government. “Don’t wait for the next administration. Continue to guide us until the very last day,” he said, promising to finish strong in the remaining 22 months.
