Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Hon. Oladotun Olakanle, Chairman of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), who died Saturday at the age of 54 following a brief illness.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Olakanle’s death as a significant loss not only to the Onigbongbo LCDA and the All Progressives Congress (APC) but to the entire state. Known by many as “Tant’olorun,” Olakanle was lauded for his dedication to local governance and contributions to Lagos’s political landscape.

“On behalf of my family and the people of Lagos State, I extend heartfelt condolences to the residents of Onigbongbo LCDA on the passing of their council chairman, Hon. Oladotun Olakanle,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “His death is a personal loss to me and a painful void for his council and Lagos as a whole.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Olakanle as a “fine gentleman, a loyal party man, and a committed public officer” who understood the nuances of local government administration.

According to the governor, Olakanle’s commitment to the APC and his community was evident in his accomplishments throughout his four-year tenure as council chairman, where he spearheaded numerous initiatives for the betterment of Onigbongbo LCDA.

“He was an invaluable asset to the APC and an inspiring leader whose impact extended beyond his council,” the governor said. “His legacy and contributions to Onigbongbo LCDA’s growth and development will not be forgotten.”

The governor concluded by praying for peace for Olakanle’s soul and comfort for his family, friends, political colleagues, and the residents of Onigbongbo LCDA.
