Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Tuesday hosted his Ogun State counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in Ibadan for a strategic meeting aimed at deepening collaboration between the two neighbouring states. The discussion focused on key sectors such as the economy, agriculture, and security.

Held at the Governor’s Office in Agodi, the meeting forms part of a broader initiative by South-West governors to tackle shared challenges and promote regional development through collective action.

Speaking to journalists afterward, Governor Abiodun emphasized the historical and cultural ties that bind Oyo and Ogun, noting that both states were part of the old Western Region and share a common heritage that supports mutual cooperation.

He disclosed that agriculture and food security were major points of discussion, with both leaders committing to policies that would promote local food production and agribusiness investments to enhance food sovereignty.

Abiodun identified border communities such as Odeda, Imeko, and Iwoye in Ogun, and Fasola in Oyo, as having great potential for joint agricultural ventures capable of improving livelihoods and stimulating rural development.

On security, the Ogun governor commended the efforts of the South-West security network, Amotekun, and stressed the need for stronger collaboration in intelligence sharing and joint responses to threats.

He noted that security remained a prerequisite for any meaningful development and said both states agreed to strengthen efforts to protect lives and property while boosting investor confidence.

The meeting builds on a similar engagement when Governor Makinde previously visited Ogun State. More details on the outcomes and implementation strategies from this latest meeting are expected in the coming weeks.
