Gowon visits Tinubu, commends his efforts on economy, security

Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, on Saturday paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu, where he commended the president’s efforts in steering the country toward progress.

Speaking with journalists after the visit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Gowon said he came to appreciate the president for what he described as the good work being done for Nigeria.

“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he is doing for the country,” Gowon said.

The elder statesman noted that Nigerians should recognise the progress being made under President Tinubu’s led-administration across political, economic and social sectors.

He acknowledged that insecurity remains a major challenge but expressed confidence in the president’s commitment to addressing the situation.

“We have to look at all the good work that the president is doing and the progress that Nigeria is making. He is doing the best that he can in political, economic and social areas. On the major problem, which is insecurity, the president is doing everything in the interest of the country,” he added.

Last year, the federal executive council approved the renaming of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) to Yakubu Gowon University.

Gowon is a retired Nigerian military officer who served as the head of state from 1966 to 1975.
