Afrobeats star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has shared her views on marriage, stating that it should not be built on feelings alone.
Speaking during a recent interview with on-air personality Angie Martinez, the singer maintained that beyond emotions, marriage is expected to help individuals grow and become better versions of themselves.
According to her, marriage is an institution that can undergo difficulties; therefore, caution and understanding are needed before people venture into it.
The Grammy Award winner added that having a God-fearing partner is her standard.
In her words, “My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?”
Tems further questioned commitment without accountability, asking rhetorically, “If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want.”
According to her, marriage should be based on compatibility and personal growth beyond love, noting that it is meant to make individuals better and withstand difficult times.
