As part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde on Sunday led a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.

Makinde said the service, which featured as Day Seven of the anniversary celebrations, was organised to express gratitude to God for His guidance, protection, and mercy over the state since its creation.

He described the golden jubilee as a significant milestone in Oyo State’s history, noting that it offers an opportunity for reflection and renewed commitment to sustainable development.

The governor thanked former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, for honouring the state with his presence at the service. He also appreciated Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke for joining the celebration, describing her participation as a symbol of unity and goodwill.

According to Makinde, similar thanksgiving services were held simultaneously across all 33 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the statewide observance was aimed at collectively appreciating God for His faithfulness and mercy toward Oyo State and its people over the past five decades.

Dignitaries from within and outside the state attended the Ibadan service, including former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
