Group calls for removal of Osun police boss over allegation of killings, extortion

A group, World Institute for Peace (WIP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command to order so as not to set the state on fire.
Besides, the group called for the immediate sack or transfer of the state Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode.
Chairman of World Institute for Peace, Osun State chapter, Mr. Lamina Omotoyosi, who made the call while addressing journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday said the Presidency and the Inspector General of Police should take immediate action in order not to witness another protest that would be more dangerous than the EndSARS.
Omotoyosi noted that despite the pronouncements from the Presidency and the Inspector General of Police, police officers in the state have been carrying out illegal activities such as; killing of innocent citizens, checking of people’s phones as well as extortion.
According to him, these illegal acts of extortion and checking of phones and laptops happened along Osogbo to Ikirun, Osogbo to Ilesa, Osogbo to Ara junction and Ikire to Gbongan, Dagbolu to Ikirun, Old Garage Area, Osogbo, Stadium to Oke-Onitea, Osogbo, Ilesha Garage to Testing Ground, Moro to Ile Ife among other roads in the state.
He said, Osun is the state that has the highest number of police road-blocks and illegal check points where series of illegal activities are being carried out on daily basis.
He specifically mentioned the case of Prince Saheed Ajibola Olabomi who was gruesomely murdered by some police officers in the state in July, 2021, adding that the state police command has not allowed justice to take its course against the police officers who were accused for the killing.
Omotoyosi also cited the case of a lady who reported a case of human trafficking and maltreatment of a girl child and that the police officers forcefully collected N5000 from her saying that she has to pay for reporting the case or be detained.
“Dear President Muhammadu Buhari, the illegal activities of police officers in Osun State are becoming unbearable and need urgent attention before it is too late. You are called to make hay while the sunshine about this vital information,” Omotoyosi added.
