Group commends NSCDC for recovering 200 mining sites, applauds FG’s efforts

The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) have hailed the recovery of 200 mining sites from illegal miners and bandits by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), describing the development as a significant step toward revitalizing the nation’s mining sector and boosting economic growth.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Shedrach Sunday, TMV highlighted the impact of the recovery effort, noting it marked a new era for communities plagued by insecurity and chaotic mining activities.

The group emphasized that the operation would enhance investor confidence and encourage the participation of licensed miners in the sector.

“With the recovery of these sites by specialized NSCDC operatives, more licensed miners and genuine investors will be confident enough to invest in the sector, with its concomitant positive effects on the economy,” the statement read.

The TMV also praised the NSCDC for establishing mining marshals to monitor and secure mining activities nationwide, describing it as a proactive measure to restore order in the sector.

“This initiative will regulate mining activities and ensure safety, marking a significant turnaround for an industry previously marred by security challenges,” the group said.

The statement attributed the progress to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, noting that his administration’s efforts have already drawn interest from global mining investors. The federal government estimates the sector’s potential at $700 billion and has recently hosted an investment roadshow in South Africa to attract $500 million in funding.

TMV lauded the government’s holistic approach to security, citing improved safety in mining areas and other regions of the country.

They referenced the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who highlighted gains in combating terrorist groups like Lakurawa in the Kebbi-Sokoto axis, restoring peace in the South East, and neutralizing bandits in the North.

The group also acknowledged the economic benefits of the reforms, including job creation and increased investor confidence. “With these measures, Nigeria’s economy is poised for significant growth,” TMV stated.

The volunteers further commended the Tinubu administration for its broader efforts to revitalize the economy and ensure the safety of Nigerians, expressing optimism about the positive trajectory of the country under his leadership.
