The Guinness World Records has reacted to former Big Brother Naija housemate Queen Mercy Atang’s creative outfit at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The reality TV star shared a video of her outfit on Instagram on Sunday, attracting widespread reactions online. Responding to the post, Guinness World Records commented: “Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm.”

In her response on Thursday, Queen wrote, “Hello, @guinnessworldrecords, I see you in the comment section,” sparking speculations about possible discussions around the record category.

According to Guinness World Records, the current record for the world’s largest wearable cake dress stands at 131.15kg (289lb 13oz), held by Natasha Coline Kim Fah Lee Fokas of SweetyCakes GmbH in Bern, Switzerland.

Queen’s dress was designed with 500 loaves of bread attached from her waistline down to her feet and complemented with pots of local beans, popularly known as ewa agoyin. She explained at the red carpet event that the outfit was inspired by her bakery business.

The outfit generated mixed reactions online, with some critics describing it as excessive, while others commended her creativity and public relations strategy in promoting her brand. The trend has also inspired entrepreneurs online to create AI-generated brand-themed outfits and AMVCA-inspired fashion concepts.

Following the AMVCA events, Queen proposed the introduction of a special entrepreneurs-focused session at future editions of the awards. In an open letter to MultiChoice Group and Africa Magic, she suggested an “AMVCA Nigerian Entrepreneurs Night” to showcase brands, creativity and business innovation.

Queen recently launched her bakery business and also announced her appointment as a brand influencer for Golden Penny Flour, while seeking collaborations with supermarket owners to expand her business.
