Gunmen abduct PDP chieftain, Chief Benedict Akika in Oyo
Chief Benedict Akika, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, was kidnapped by armed assailants at his home in the Olorunda area of Lagelu local government on Wednesday night.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen, heavily armed, stormed Akika’s residence, threatening anyone who attempted to resist. A family member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, recounted the frightening moments, stating, “There was a sporadic gunshot aimed at scaring the residents and passersby. He was later whisked away to an unknown destination.”
The abduction occurred while Akika was reportedly spending time with his family. The state of fear and anxiety has since enveloped the community, as residents grapple with the implications of such brazen violence.
Notably, Chief Akika is known for his philanthropic efforts; just weeks prior to his kidnapping, he had empowered widows and the less privileged in the area by providing them with work tools valued in the millions.
The incident has been officially confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, who stated that an investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators and secure Akika’s safe return.
