Gunmen kill police officer, abduct Chinese expatriate in Oyo

Suspected gunmen have killed a police officer and abducted a Chinese expatriate during an attack on a company facility in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred over the weekend at Aqua Triton Company, located in the Ogunmakin area on the outskirts of the state capital. The abducted victim is a principal officer of the firm.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the attackers carried out the operation in a commando-style raid.
According to the police, the gunmen stormed the facility and engaged security personnel, leading to a fierce confrontation. During the exchange, one police officer was fatally shot while attempting to repel the attack, although some of the assailants were reportedly injured.
The attackers succeeded in abducting the Chinese expatriate before fleeing the scene, prompting an immediate security response.
SP Ayanlade disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has ordered a full-scale operation to rescue the victim. The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations is leading the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams.
He added that bush-combing operations are ongoing in the area, while investigations have been intensified to track down the perpetrators, secure the release of the abducted expatriate, and bring those responsible to justice.
