Halt Ibadan Circular Road demolitions, APC urges Governor Makinde

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to immediately halt the demolition of properties in parts of Ibadan, warning that the action could spark widespread protests among affected residents.
In a statement on Thursday, APC’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, condemned the ongoing demolitions, describing them as insensitive and poorly justified. He argued that several of the affected properties are federal facilities or belong to ordinary citizens struggling to make a living.
“The complaints from property owners along the planned road stretch are loud and widespread,” Sadare said. “Lives are being disrupted, and the government has shown little concern for the citizens’ plight.”
The APC questioned the rationale behind acquiring over 500,000 plots of land, mostly from low-income residents, warning that such actions could drive citizens to self-help and potentially result in large-scale unrest.
The party further noted that public frustration has been building for years, citing what it described as the government’s repeated disregard for traders and business owners across the state.
To ease the tension, the APC recommended that the project corridor be reduced from 500 metres to 100 metres on both sides to minimize the impact on residents and traders.
It urged Governor Makinde to act swiftly and adopt a more humane approach to prevent the situation from escalating into a major crisis in the state capital.
