Victor Osimhen is expected to be sidelined for some time after sustaining a hamstring injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 win over Sivasspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
The Nigeria international, who found the net in the match, was forced off in the 74th minute and replaced by Michy Batshuayi.
The goal was Osimhen’s 10th in the league after joining Galatasaray on transfer day deadline on loan from Italian Serie A side Napoli.
Galatasaray confirmed Osimhen’s injury through an official statement posted on their website, stating that treatment had commenced for the 25-year-old.
“During the Net Global Sivasspor match in the 15th week of the Trendyol Super League, Victor Osimhen felt pain in his right upper back muscle.
“In the MRI examinations performed at our sponsor hospital Medicana, moderate strain and bleeding were detected in the right upper back muscle group, and treatment has been started for our player,” the club said.
While no official recovery timeline was provided, reports suggest Osimhen could miss action until late December.
According to TransferMarkt however, the Super Eagles star is expected to be back by December 23. This means he might have played his last game for the year for the Turkish giants who round up the year at Kayserispor on December 22.
The club also confirmed an injury to Barış Alper Yılmaz, who suffered multiple ligament strains and bleeding following a rough challenge in the same match. Galatasaray stated: “No timeframe has been given by our club or our medical team regarding the return of our players to the field, and action will be taken according to their clinical progress.”
