Heavy gridlock stalls traffic on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Motorists travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are currently stranded as heavy traffic has brought movement to a standstill on both carriageways of the highway.

The worst of the congestion was recorded around the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Redemption Camp gate, where vehicles remained virtually stationary for several hours, according to observations by Western Post.

As of press time, the exact cause of the gridlock had yet to be established. However, sources familiar with the situation said traffic began to ease after the Sagamu Interchange.

The prolonged congestion left commuters, commercial drivers and other road users stranded, with many spending several hours on the expressway while waiting for traffic to improve.

Motorists travelling to either Lagos or Ibadan are advised to consider alternative routes where possible or postpone non-essential trips until normal traffic flow is restored.

Some affected motorists expressed frustration over the situation, saying the delay disrupted their travel plans, business activities and scheduled appointments.

Several road users also urged the immediate deployment of traffic management officials to the affected sections of the expressway to ease the congestion and prevent further buildup of vehicles.

As of press time, there was no official statement from the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, or other relevant authorities on the cause of the gridlock or measures being taken to restore the free flow of traffic.
