Hold your corner for PDP, Makinde tells members ahead of national convention

By Adejayan Gbenga –

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the country to remain steadfast and committed to rebuilding the party from within, rather than abandoning it in difficult times.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the PDP Transportation Sub-Committee in Abuja, Governor Makinde described the PDP as a resilient and enduring political family built on the ideals of democracy, social justice, and the collective aspirations of Nigerians.

“Since the beginning of this Republic in 1999, the PDP has remained a major force, either as the ruling party or as the main opposition since 2015. We are not going anywhere,” Makinde said. “When you hear that some people have defected, just hold your own corner for PDP. This is the moment when new, authentic heroes will emerge.”

His remarks come as the PDP prepares for its national convention scheduled for November, amid internal restructuring efforts and growing political pressure across the country.

Makinde cited the peaceful conduct of the party’s congress in Oyo State as evidence that unity and inclusiveness can be achieved when members place the party’s interests above personal ambition.

Reaffirming his commitment to the PDP’s founding values, the governor pledged to work closely with other governors, the National Working Committee, and grassroots members to ensure a transparent and credible convention.

He urged party stakeholders to prioritize collective progress and resist any form of division, warning that internal disunity only strengthens the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The train to Ibadan has already taken off,” Makinde said. “Anyone standing in its way is attempting political suicide.”
