House Committee Chair hails organizers of Osun Intercollegiate Games 2024

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Abiola Awoyeye, alongside his Deputy, has expressed deep satisfaction with the ongoing Osun Intercollegiate Games 2024.

Speaking at a briefing on Monday, Honourable Awoyeye commended the event organizers for their exceptional efforts in creating a competition that fosters unity, excellence, and youth engagement across tertiary institutions in Osun State.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event’s progress report, the lawmaker described the Games as a beacon of hope for grassroots sports development in the state. He praised the seamless coordination, high participation levels, and impressive standards of competition.

“The Osun Intercollegiate Games have not only fostered healthy competition among students but also created a platform to identify and nurture young talents who could represent the state and the nation in the future,” he said.

The Deputy Chairman of the Committee echoed these sentiments, noting that the success of the Games reflects the commitment of all stakeholders, including the state government, institutional leaders, and students.

“What we are witnessing here is a testament to what collaboration and determination can achieve,” he remarked.

Honourable Awoyeye, a strong advocate for youth empowerment through sports, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote physical fitness and mental development.

He pledged continued support for the Osun Intercollegiate Games and assured organizers of further collaboration to enhance future editions.

In a show of solidarity, Honourable Awoyeye confirmed his attendance at the grand finale, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Sports Complex.

The final day is expected to feature the much-anticipated football final, sprint events (100m and 200m), relay races, tug of war, and an institution parade.

Olayiwola Olafiranye, Team Lead of Ace Sports Global Management, also thanked the state government and all stakeholders for creating a conducive environment for sports development. He reaffirmed the current government’s commitment to advancing sports across the state.

The day will conclude with a grand closing ceremony, where medals and trophies will be awarded to outstanding athletes and institutions.

Honourable Awoyeye expressed excitement about the Games’ climax and encouraged the public to attend in support of the athletes. “This is more than a competition; it is a festival of talents and dreams,” he concluded.
