House committee lauds Tinubu on sports budget increase

…assures support for NSC, NFF

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for increasing the 2025 sports budget from ₦29 billion in 2024 to over ₦94 billion, representing a 227% increment.

Honourable Amadu made this statement on Tuesday during the budget defense session involving the National Sports Commission (NSC), Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and National Institute for Sports at the National Assembly in Abuja.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has tripled the sports budget, a giant stride that we believe will significantly improve the development, administration, and management of sports in Nigeria,” Amadu stated.

He expressed optimism that the increased allocation would address issues such as dilapidated sports infrastructure, funding for over 40 federations, lack of sustainable development plans, and inadequate manpower training needed to elevate Nigerian sports.

Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, assured the NSC, NFF, and National Institute for Sports of the National Assembly’s full support.

“The House Committee on Sports will ensure that funds allocated by the federal government are accessed with ease. This will drive sports development, particularly at the grassroots level,” he added.
