Housing Minister hails EFCC over recovery of 753 Abuja housing units

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has praised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for recovering and handing over 753 housing units in the Lokogoma area of Abuja, describing the move as a major milestone in the nation’s anti-corruption efforts.

Dangiwa made the remarks on Wednesday, May 21, during an inspection of the property located on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District. The estate spans 150,500 square meters and includes duplexes and apartments. It was recovered by the EFCC following a final forfeiture order granted by the FCT High Court on December 2, 2024.

The minister described the recovery as the largest of its kind in Nigeria’s history and commended EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede for his leadership. He said the handover is a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I have to seriously commend the stewardship of the EFCC Chairman on this outstanding recovery,” Dangiwa said. “Many more recoveries are ongoing, and Nigerians will continue to benefit.”

Olukoyede, in his remarks, reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in managing recovered assets. He noted that the inspection followed a handover meeting with the Housing Ministry to ensure public visibility of the recovery.

“This estate is a testament to the impact of the anti-corruption fight,” he said. “Although 753 units were declared, the number may increase after remodeling and full assessment.”

He added that the estate now belongs to the Federal Government, which will determine how best to use it—potentially through affordable housing initiatives in a transparent and accountable manner.

Olukoyede emphasized that the recovery highlights the government’s use of anti-corruption tools to drive economic development and reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to continue its work without fear or favour.
