How Amaechi’s wife got N48bn NDDC contract to train Niger Delta women — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that Judith Amaechi, wife of former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, received N48 billion in contracts from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under the pretext of training women in the Niger Delta.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Wike called on President Bola Tinubu to release the forensic audit report on the NDDC, which he claimed contains detailed records of the controversial payments. He alleged that Judith’s company received N4 billion monthly from the commission, amounting to N48 billion annually.

Wike accused former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, of suppressing the audit report to protect those implicated in financial misconduct. “Who killed the report? Malami did—to protect those concerned. Mr President should help Nigerians and release that document,” he said.

The audit, initiated by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, was intended to uncover mismanagement, fraud, and project failures within the NDDC between 2001 and August 2019.

Wike said he is willing to resign as FCT minister if the document does not support his claims. “If what I am saying is not in the document, I will resign. I do not worship any office,” he declared.

He further dismissed Amaechi’s recent comments challenging his political relevance, and questioned the credibility of referring to Judith Amaechi as an industrialist, claiming her fortune stemmed from the alleged NDDC deal.

Wike also said his political journey predated any association with Amaechi, stating he was elected chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in 1998, long before knowing him.

“You should be respected because of the honour you have, not because you are 200 years old,” he added, mocking Amaechi’s assertion of seniority.
