How Fufu boosted my stamina – Ademola Lookman

Newly crowned Africa’s Best Player, Ademola Lookman, has revealed how Nigeria’s local dish, fufu, played a significant role in improving his stamina and overall performance.
The Super Eagles and Atalanta striker recounted how his mother introduced him to the Nigerian delicacy and how it transformed his physical abilities.
“Growing up in the U.K., I was used to eating a lot of junk food because it was convenient and didn’t take much time,” Lookman shared.
He recalled a pivotal moment in his childhood:
“One day, my mum came to watch me play soccer with other kids when I was about ten. She noticed how easily I got pushed around and fell whenever I was challenged for the ball.”
After the match, his mother expressed her concern:
“She told me, ‘Ademola, my son, I’m not impressed by how you fall so easily when playing football. You’re a Nigerian child, and you should have the stamina of a Nigerian.’”
Determined to help him, Lookman’s mother introduced fufu into his diet the very next day.
“At first, I didn’t like it because of the smell, but when I ate it with ewedu soup, I started noticing changes. My stamina improved significantly, and I became stronger on the pitch.”
Reflecting on his journey, Lookman added, “Now I’m here. How could I have made it this far without fufu? I will always represent Nigeria.”
