I have no knowledge of Bola Ige’s death, Ladoja counters Bisi Akande

Rashidi Ladoja, former governor of Oyo State, has denied allegations made by Bisi Akande, his counterpart from Osun State, suggesting that Ladoja had important information about the assassination of Bola Ige, Nigeria’s former Attorney General.

Ige was murdered at his home on December 23, 2001, and the case has remained unsolved, with calls for justice continuing over the years.

In a recent interview, Akande implied that Ladoja might know more about Ige’s death, particularly in relation to a case that had been withdrawn under Ladoja’s leadership.

Akande stated that the case, initially pursued by Ige’s successor Lam Adesina, was dropped after Ladoja became governor in 2003. He suggested that Ladoja could provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding Ige’s murder.

Responding to the claim, Ladoja addressed journalists in Ibadan, refuting Akande’s statements. He clarified that the case related to Ige’s assassination was actively pursued by his administration, even reaching the Supreme Court, and that he did not withdraw any charges as suggested by Akande.

Ladoja also expressed his deep sorrow over Ige’s death, emphasizing that he was close to the slain politician.

He further remarked that Akande’s allegations were false, citing prior instances where the former Osun State governor had been accused of dishonesty.

In 2016, former President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the reopening of the investigation into Ige’s murder, but there has been minimal progress since.
