‘I never referred to Apostle Babalola in bad light’ – Fatoyinbo apologises to CAC

The Global Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo, has denied making disparaging remarks about the family of the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, founder of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC).
In a statement issued on Thursday, Fatoyinbo said his attention was drawn to a press release by CAC responding to comments credited to him in a sermon. He expressed gratitude to the church for addressing the matter “in an exemplary Christian manner.”
Fatoyinbo described Apostle Babalola as a “most distinguished father of faith” whose exploits remain the hallmark of Christian organisations in Nigeria and beyond. He noted that many churches in the country trace their spiritual heritage to Babalola’s ministry, including COZA.
“I am honoured, humbled, and grateful for every word, admonition, and correction in the statement issued by CAC,” Fatoyinbo said, adding that he grew up in the church and could not erase its influence on his formative years.
He stressed that at no time in his sermon did he speak ill of Babalola’s children and urged the public to verify his message from the unedited version available online. According to him, COZA is known globally as a place of honour, and he would never take the grace over Babalola’s life, family, or ministry for granted.
Fatoyinbo further commended the late cleric’s children, describing them as “shining examples of generational impact” and worthy role models for children of visionaries. He said he remains proud of their achievements and holds them in high regard.
He, however, apologised if any of his statements caused distress or hurt to the CAC, the Babalola family, or their associates. “I will never disrespect or speak of them in that manner either publicly or privately,” he said.
Fatoyinbo concluded by praying for the continued growth of the CAC and the legacy of Apostle Babalola.
