‘I recommended Segun Showunmi as Atiku’s spokesman on Metuh’s request’ – Omokri

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has disclosed that Segun Showunmi’s appointment as spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2018 was based on a recommendation from Olisa Metuh, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during a recent interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, Omokri stated that Metuh had asked Showunmi to send his résumé to him and later instructed him to contact Omokri for a job interview. At the time, Omokri said he was in California when he held discussions with Showunmi and negotiated his salary.

“I spoke to Segun Showunmi from California and negotiated his salary with him. I thereafter informed Waziri Atiku Abubakar, and Segun Showunmi was announced as his spokesman on the terms I negotiated with him,” Omokri said.

Omokri, known for his detailed documentation, said any attempts to deny this version of events would be unwise. He encouraged journalists and members of the public to contact Metuh, who he described as an eyewitness to the entire process.

“If there is any controversy or if anybody is using foul language to deny the obvious truth, then I urge the media to contact Mr. Olisa Metuh, who is an eyewitness and who was the one who recommended Segun Showunmi to me,” he said.

He added that after Showunmi secured the role, he returned to thank Metuh for his support and recommendation. While Omokri said he prefers not to release documents proving his claims, he stated that he could do so if necessary.

“I do not want to be forced to publish documentary evidence. I would rather not. But if I have to, then I can,” Omokri warned.

He concluded by reiterating his reputation for keeping detailed records, saying, “If I am nothing at all, I am a meticulous record keeper.”
