I resigned to avoid distractions — Kano Deputy Governor Gwarzo

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has explained why he resigned from office, saying the decision was taken to allow the state government to function without distractions amid moves to impeach him.
Gwarzo submitted his resignation letter to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, bringing an end to his tenure as deputy governor with effect from March 27, 2026.
In his resignation letter, Gwarzo said the decision was voluntary and taken after careful consideration of the political situation in the state.
“I, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, with effect from 27th March 2026, pursuant to Section 306 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” he wrote.
He added that the decision followed wide consultations and personal reflection.
“This decision has been reached after careful consultations and deep reflection, guided by my current experience, commitment to the peace, stability, and overall interest of the good people of Kano State,” he stated.
The former deputy governor said his action was intended to prevent the ongoing political situation from affecting governance in the state.
“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the State to move forward without undue distractions,” he said.
