’I was beyond shocked’— Desmond Elliot reacts to Gbajabiamila’s allegation

Desmond Elliot, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has denied allegations by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, linking him to being the mastermind behind the alleged impeachment plot against the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa.

Elliot made the clarification during a recent appearance on TVC where he reacted to claims circulating on social media that he spearheaded moves to remove the speaker from office.

The actor-turned-politician said he was shocked by the allegations, insisting that he was not in the country when discussions surrounding the alleged impeachment began.

According to him, he was in South Africa attending his sister-in-law’s wedding when he first heard about the development.

Elliot explained that he initially believed the move had the approval of the presidency, which was why he assumed those involved were acting with official backing.

“You know coups can happen without you present. So, I knew nothing about it. Only for me to come back and what we heard is that it came from the presidency. And quite naturally, I followed the bandwagon. And that was what I held on to that period,” he said.

The lawmaker, however, maintained that the information later turned out to be false, adding that the misunderstanding was eventually resolved through the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

“I was shocked when I saw the video. I was actually beyond shocked. I wasn’t the mastermind. I wasn’t in the country at the time I heard of it,” Elliot added, while questioning why the controversy was resurfacing despite being settled.

He equally stressed that revisiting the issue was unnecessary and could undermine the unity and peace of Surulere and the country as a whole.
