I will approve the minimum wage Nigeria can afford – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said he will approve a new minimum wage the government can afford.

He stated this in Abuja on Wednesday at a dinner to mark 25 years of uninterrupted democratic dispensation in Nigeria.

He said, “The minimum wage is going to be what Nigerians can afford, what you can afford and what I can afford. Cut your coat according to your size, if you have size at all.

Organised labour and the government have failed to agree on the new minimum wage. While labour’s demand fell from ₦494,000 to ₦250,000, the government promised workers ₦62,000 and added ₦2,000 to its initial ₦60,000 offer.

The report of the Tripartite Committee has been sent to the President who promised to decide and send an executive bill to the National Assembly for approval of a new minimum wage.
