Ibadan airport cleared for presidential arrival ahead of Olubadan coronation

The Senate Committee on Aviation and Aerospace Development has certified the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan, as ready to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top dignitaries expected at the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Sen.) Rashidi Ladoja.
The coronation is scheduled to hold on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan. Guests from across Nigeria and beyond are expected to attend the landmark traditional ceremony.
Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, who chairs the Senate Committee on Aviation and Aerospace Development, led the inspection of the renovated airport facilities on Wednesday.

The lawmaker disclosed that the upgrade works carried out by the Oyo State Government have put the airport in top shape, with significant improvements to the terminal, tarmac, and runways.
According to him, the inspection was necessary to ensure a hitch-free arrival for the President and other dignitaries. He confirmed that the facility has met all operational standards.
“This morning, I inspected the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport renovation and upgrade in my capacity as Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation and Aerospace Development, in preparedness for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s attendance at the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Sen.) Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Abdulfatai said.
He added that the readiness of the airport highlights Ibadan’s strategic importance, noting that the upgrades would not only support the coronation but also enhance the state’s aviation and economic profile.
