The Olubadan-in-Council has called on traditional title holders in Ibadanland to offer full support to the incoming Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, as preparations for his ascension to the throne progress. Oba Ladoja, the current Otun Olubadan, is next in line to become the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, in accordance with the city’s rotational chieftaincy succession structure.
Although his nomination and formal approval are yet to be ratified, the Olubadan Advisory Council is expected to meet soon to complete the required traditional processes. The council’s appeal is aimed at promoting unity and ensuring a smooth transition of leadership.
The Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, emphasized the importance of rallying support for Oba Ladoja, noting that collaboration among traditional leaders is vital for the peace and development of Ibadanland. He made the call during a condolence visit by the Association of Ibadan Traditional Baales to the Olubadan Palace at Oke-Aremo, following the death of the late Olubadan, Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Chief Ayoade Olugbemiga, Oba Ajibade urged Baales and other title holders to maintain peace and uphold the dignity of the Olubadan institution. He warned against actions that could undermine the revered traditions of Ibadanland.
Also speaking at the event, the Maye Olubadan, Senior Chief Lekan Alabi, appealed to all indigenes and residents of Ibadan to contribute meaningfully to the city’s growth and development. He urged them to prioritize unity, peace, and communal progress.
On behalf of the visiting Baales, Alhaji Bashiru Adisa, Baale of Kinabi village in Ido Local Government Area, expressed deep condolences over the loss of the late monarch. He described the deceased as a disciplined, courageous, and peace-loving leader who left a lasting legacy.
The meeting, held at the new Olubadan Palace, was attended by members of the Olubadan Advisory Council, high chiefs, Mogajis, Baales, and the Iyaloja of Ibadanland, Chief (Mrs.) Oyinlola Iswat Abiola Ameringun. Their presence underscored the significance of solidarity during this critical period.
As Ibadan prepares to crown its new traditional ruler, all eyes are on the Olubadan-in-Council to complete the selection process. Stakeholders continue to emphasize unity and tradition as essential pillars for the city’s sustained peace and progress.
