Ibadan elders move to resolve Makinde–Olubadan rift, urge restraint

The Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, has said Ibadan elders have stepped into the reported disagreement involving Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Ajibola disclosed this on Friday while speaking with journalists at his residence in Sanyo, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State, adding that efforts were underway to ensure peace among all parties.

He urged Oba Ladoja to avoid partisan politics and maintain the dignity of the traditional institution, noting that the Olubadan stool should remain above political interests.

According to him, “I want to allay the fear of our people in Ibadanland that there is no problem between Governor Seyi Makinde and His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. Our elders have waded into the matter.”

He added that Ibadan elders were committed to resolving any misunderstanding, warning against actions that could trigger instability in the ancient city.

Ajibola also advised political actors to be mindful of their statements, stressing that Ibadan could not afford a return to past episodes of political violence.

He further cautioned the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland and senator representing Oyo South, Sharafadeen Alli, to focus on his traditional and political responsibilities without dragging the institution into partisan matters.

Meanwhile, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reiterated his allegation that there is a political plot against the Olubadan, despite earlier denials by the Oyo State Government and the palace.
