Ibadan leaders quell tension as CCII dismisses crisis between Makinde, Olubadan

The apex socio-cultural group in Ibadan, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), has announced that the rift between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has been resolved.

In a statement issued on Sunday, CCII President-General, Sulaimon Ajewole, said the situation was addressed following concerns over reported tensions between the political and traditional authorities.

The development comes after former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose alleged that Makinde was plotting to remove the Olubadan, an allegation earlier denied by the palace.

Ajewole said the disagreement was settled through internal dialogue and traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms within Ibadanland, stressing that elders and stakeholders intervened promptly. He stated that the matter never escalated to a level requiring external involvement, adding that attempts by outsiders to inflame the situation were unnecessary.

“The issues between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan have been resolved amicably, and the external forces that attempted to create a crisis around the situation have been defeated. Nobody is planning to impeach Governor Makinde, and nobody is also planning to remove the Olubadan from his throne,” he said.

The CCII president-general described the bond between Makinde and the Olubadan as that of a father and son, emphasising that any disagreements would always be resolved internally.

He urged residents to remain calm and support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and development, while also cautioning individuals and groups against spreading misinformation.

Ajewole further commended both the governor and the monarch for their contributions to Ibadan’s growth, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, job creation, security, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the city’s economic potential.
