Ibadan Poly students shut down commercial activities over delay in results, NYSC mobilisation

Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Monday, shut down all adjoining roads leading to the Oyo State Secretariat Complex, protesting over alleged delay in the release of their results and mobilisations for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and others.
They blocked roads, preventing vehicles from moving around the secretariat, leading to heavy traffic jam in the area.
For hours, social and business activities were paralysed in the areas.
The students demanded to see Governor Seyi Makinde, which led to the shutting down of the gate of the secretariat.
Speaking on the development, Special Assistant to governor on Students Affairs, Victor Olojede said the protest was a peaceful exercise by the students to show their grievances on the poor situation of the institution.
According to him, the students were demanding for more lecturers, conducive and well secured environment among others
“The state governor is doing his best, will continue to do more. As it is, they have come to show their grievance to the governor over some issues concerning their welfare and I want to assure you that the governor will act accordingly ” he said.
Olojede urged the students to remain calm assuring that the governor will take appropriate action on their demands.
One of the students, Kehinde Ayanboade that the protest was as a result of portal challenge, course forms, medical issue, non-availability of result, insufficient classrooms, poor infrastructure, low welfare for students and others.
