Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, Kehinde Akande, has stated that all necessary procedures were followed before the demolition of structures along the Railway–110 Road corridor in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Addressing public concerns on Wednesday, Akande explained that the affected buildings were illegal structures encroaching on designated road reserves and setbacks.

He noted that the clearance exercise was carried out to facilitate a planned road construction project aimed at improving traffic flow within the city.

According to him, occupants received prior notifications, including initial removal notices and final reminders, allowing them adequate time to vacate the area voluntarily before enforcement commenced.

He added that the project is expected to ease congestion along the Aleshinloye, Ring Road and Iyanganku corridors while enhancing economic activities through improved road connectivity.

Akande also dismissed allegations that the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s property was vandalised or that thugs participated in the operation, stressing that the demolition was conducted peacefully by technical teams with the support of security agencies, including the police, DSS, NSCDC, Operation Burst and Amotekun Corps.
