Ibadan stakeholders warn politicians against disrespecting Olubadan stool

By Adejayan Gbenga –
Traditional leaders and stakeholders in Ibadanland have warned politicians and groups against disrespecting the Olubadan stool and the broader Ibadan traditional institution, saying such actions could cost them the votes of Ibadan residents in the 2027 elections.
A statement by the President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, and the Coordinator of the Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade, emphasised that Ibadan, with its 11 local governments, controls over 60% of the state’s electorate.
They noted that no politician can win an election without the support of Ibadan people and affirmed their commitment to protecting the Olubadan institution from ridicule or disrespect.
“Anybody that disrespects or associates with those who intend to ridicule Ibadanland and our traditional institution should forget 2027,” the statement warned.
The stakeholders added that they have been closely monitoring recent developments and will act to safeguard the heritage and authority of Ibadanland’s traditional institutions.
