The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has refuted claims that it terminated the employment of 3,000 workers, clarifying that only 221 contract staff were affected.
In a statement released on Wednesday, IBEDC’s Coordinating Head of Corporate Services, Angela Olanrewaju, described the reports as inaccurate. She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering quality service while continuously implementing measures to enhance operations across its franchise areas.
Olanrewaju also commended the Federal Ministry of Labour for facilitating discussions among stakeholders, acknowledging the professionalism demonstrated throughout the ongoing mediation process.
“The company acknowledges the professionalism exhibited during the mediation process, which remains ongoing. In light of the situation, IBEDC plans to take legal action to address the defamation,” she stated.
She urged the Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to exercise patience and avoid actions that could disrupt operations.
She cautioned that any disruptions “would only hinder our ability to provide uninterrupted power supply to businesses and residents in Oyo State and its environs.”
IBEDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its reputation while continuing to focus on delivering reliable electricity services to customers.
