IDEA commends EFCC anti-corruption efforts, seeks stronger partnership

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what it described as tangible results in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts under its current leadership.
IDEA Secretary-General, Kevin Casas-Zamora, gave the commendation in Abuja on Thursday during a visit by a delegation from the institute to the EFCC headquarters.
The visit was aimed at reviewing progress under the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme and exploring new areas of collaboration between both organisations.
Zamora praised the leadership of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, saying the agency had demonstrated strong capacity in delivering results that extend beyond institutional projects to broader national impact.
He also noted that IDEA’s partnership with the EFCC had focused on capacity building, programme execution, and anti-corruption strategy development, adding that the collaboration was contributing to global anti-corruption efforts.
“It has been a guidance and leadership that has demonstrated the ability to deliver concrete results, not just for the projects but for Nigerians, and that is something that we are very happy about,” he said.
A member of the delegation, Danladi Plang, also commended the EFCC for prosecuting high-profile corruption cases, saying the agency had helped reinforce the message that impunity was no longer acceptable in Nigeria.
In his response, Olukoyede expressed appreciation for IDEA’s support, noting that the partnership had been longstanding and instrumental in strengthening EFCC operations, including capacity-building and cybercrime response initiatives.
