IGP commends Police fighter Ukah for winning African EFC Mixed Martial Arts Championship

Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has praised Police Constable Juliet Ukah for her recent victories in the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) in South Africa.
In a statement released by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP congratulated Ukah on her accomplishments and praised the Nigeria Police Force for its contributions to sports development in the country.
“He commended the officer for making the Nigeria Police Force, and by extension, the nation proud. The IGP further promised to continually discover and showcase new talents in the Police,” Adejobi said.
He said Ukah’s impressive performance in the EFC highlights the growing prominence of MMA in Africa, and the potential for athletes from the continent to achieve international success.
He added that her success also demonstrates the important role that law enforcement officers can play in sports, using their skills and training to compete at the highest levels.
Ukah, who was one of two police female mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters recently released by the IGP for a 6-week professional training tour in Thailand, emerged victorious against South Africa’s Crystal Van Wyk, who was undefeated at the time, in a 3-round bout at EFC 102 in Johannesburg on April 13.
She also defeated Clodia Vochung Shivabo of Cameroon at a subsequent bout on April 22.
Recruited into the Nigeria Police Force in 2018, Ukah has demonstrated her versatility and passion for excellence over the years, having already conquered the boxing and kickboxing worlds in Nigeria and Africa.
With her recent victories, Ukah is now the African EFC Champion and the No. 1 Contender for the World EFC Female Straw Weight Title Belt, with an unbeaten streak of 4 professional fights.
