IGP Egbetokun disburses N2.99bn insurance benefits to families of fallen officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, took significant steps to enhance the welfare of police personnel and their families today, February 18, 2025, by presenting insurance benefit cheques to the next of kin of 706 fallen officers at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The event, which was attended by members of the Force Management Team, senior police officers, stakeholders from the insurance industry, and the beneficiaries, also saw the unveiling of the Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal (npfinsuranceclaimsmgt.ng).

In his address, IGP Egbetokun underscored the importance of the initiative in addressing the long-standing backlog of unsettled insurance claims, which had burdened families since 2010. Through continuous efforts, the Force has successfully disbursed benefits to 6,465 beneficiaries in eight phases, totaling N17.8 billion.

The IGP further announced the disbursement of an additional N2.99 billion to the 706 beneficiaries of the 2020–2024 policy years, bringing the total amount of insurance benefits paid to N20.84 billion. This latest disbursement has benefitted a total of 7,171 families.

The newly launched Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal aims to streamline the insurance claims process, eliminate delays, and ensure faster, more transparent access to benefits.

The platform is expected to significantly improve the welfare of police families and enhance the efficiency of the insurance claims process.

In addition, the IGP highlighted a specialized training program for Insurance Desk Officers across 17 Zonal Commands and 37 State Commands, designed to further improve the efficiency and service delivery of claims management.

IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the well-being of both serving and retired officers, and to continuously providing support to the families of fallen officers, ensuring that they are not left to struggle in the face of their loss.
