IGP Egbetokun reassigns newly deployed FCT Commissioner, others
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has redeployed CP Peter Opara, less than a week after his appointment as the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Opara, who was appointed to the role on September 14, 2024, by the Police Service Commission (PSC), has now been reassigned to the Delta State Command.
The shakeup also saw CP Tunji Disu, previously in charge of Rivers State, appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for the FCT. CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, who headed Delta State, will now assume duties as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.
In addition to these key changes, four more police commissioners have been redeployed across the country. CP Danladi Nda has been posted to Abia State, CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale will oversee the Lagos State Command, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya has been assigned to Ebonyi State, and CP Festus Eribo has taken over as Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State.
The redeployments, approved by the PSC, are part of IGP Egbetokun’s broader effort to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly appointed commissioners have been urged to implement security reforms and adopt innovative crime-fighting strategies in their respective commands.
The changes are effective immediately, as the IGP aims to strengthen the force’s ability to address rising security challenges across the country.
