IGP hosts stakeholders, retired officers to address police pension concerns

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday convened an interactive session with retired police officers and stakeholders in the Nigeria Police pension system.

The meeting, held at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, focused on pressing issues surrounding the contributory pension scheme, financial security, and overall welfare of retired officers.

The session brought together key figures, including the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), who provided insights into global best practices on retirement benefits, pension policies, and compensation frameworks.

Other notable attendees included Hon. Justice Paul Adamu, Commissioner 1 of the Police Service Commission; Deputy Inspectors-General of Police; members of the Force Management Team; and the National President of the Association of Retired Police Officers, AIG Paul Ochonu (Rtd).

In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun acknowledged the challenges faced by retired officers under the current contributory pension scheme and emphasized the urgent need for a sustainable framework that adequately supports retirees and their families.

He expressed optimism that the deliberations would lead to effective solutions aimed at improving the quality of life for retired officers.

Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, the IGP stressed the importance of ensuring that officers who have served the nation with dedication receive the respect and benefits they deserve.

He assured that the Force remains dedicated to working with relevant stakeholders to create a fair and equitable pension system for all retired officers.
