IGP pledges support for press freedom, strengthens media collaboration

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s (NPF) commitment to press freedom and the protection of civic space in a democratic society.
This assurance came during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
In his remarks, Ndace commended the IGP for his proactive leadership since assuming office and lauded the police for their role in maintaining public safety and order.
He also expressed concerns over the spread of misinformation and disinformation, which he said could distort public perception of the police and undermine national security. He pledged VON’s support in countering false narratives and promoting a positive image of the Force.
In his response, IGP Egbetokun appreciated VON for recognizing the efforts of the police in safeguarding lives and property. He welcomed the media organization’s partnership in addressing fake news and ensuring accurate reportage of security matters.
The IGP emphasized that the NPF remains committed to professionalism, integrity, and continuous improvement in service delivery.
He reiterated the Force’s openness to constructive feedback from the public to enhance policing efforts across the country.
