Ikale youths seek withdrawal of soldiers from private security base in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –
Ikale youths have demanded the withdrawal of soldiers allegedly stationed at the private security base of Tantita Security Services in Okitipupa, Ondo State, saying their presence has heightened tension in the area.
The demand was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by community representatives, Bankole Monday and Tayo Obamoyegun.
According to the statement, the youths expressed concern that recent developments linked to the private security outfit had created unease and strained relations between residents, traditional institutions and the company.
They further alleged that the authority of the Jegun of Idepe-Okitipupa, His Royal Majesty Oba Michael Obatuga, was undermined after the Coordinator of Tantita Security Services in the state, Idowu Asonja, allegedly failed to honour the monarch’s invitation to address pressing issues.
The group called for the immediate withdrawal of the military personnel from the private security base, the relocation of Tantita’s office from Okitipupa, a public apology to the monarch, and an investigation by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo into alleged corruption and irregular employment practices.
Asonja neither confirmed nor denied the allegations when contacted, while a source within Tantita said the firm was engaging community leaders to help restore calm.
