Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has reportedly left Nigeria to undergo a medical checkup abroad. Eguavoen, fondly known as “Cerezo” from his days as Super Eagles captain, is addressing a longstanding health issue. He is expected to rejoin the Super Eagles camp directly in Abidjan from Belgium.
In his absence, Rangers International coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede will oversee the CHAN Eagles’ training camp in Abuja this week.
As earlier reported by SCORENigeria, the Super Eagles camp will open in Abidjan on Sunday in preparation for the final 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Nigeria will face Benin on Thursday, November 14, in Abidjan, followed by a home match against Rwanda in Uyo on November 18.
Nigeria currently leads Group D with 10 points from four matches, four points ahead of Benin. The team needs at least a draw to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON, which will be hosted in Morocco in December 2025.
