Ilorin Innovation Hub partners UNDP to launch advanced Makerspace in Kwara
The Ilorin Innovation Hub has announced a groundbreaking partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to launch a state-of-the-art Makerspace, setting a new standard for innovation in Kwara State and across Africa.
The partnership combines visionary governance, international development expertise, private sector involvement, and academic support to enhance skill development, sustainability, and technological progress.
The UNDP Makerspace, located at the Hub on Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin’s developing metropolis, will serve as a high-tech environment designed to spark innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
Outfitted with advanced equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, and robotics kits, the space will empower tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and innovators to turn ideas into physical solutions. This facility aims to build technical skills, support prototype development, and position Kwara State as a leader in sustainable economic growth through technology.
Temi Kolawole, Managing Director of the Ilorin Innovation Hub, expressed enthusiasm for the new partnership, stating, “The collaboration with UNDP is a significant step in institutionalizing our Hub. This Makerspace will play a pivotal role in nurturing local talent, enhancing technical skills, and solidifying Kwara State as a hub for technological innovation.”
He noted that the collaboration unites diverse expertise from partners like IHS Towers and academic institutions, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for innovation.
Kolawole also highlighted the strategic choice of contractors, including Spacefinish, a leader in designing innovation spaces, to develop the interior and furnishings.
The partnership with UNDP adds a critical hardware component to the Hub’s established focus on telecommunications and software, broadening the range of technological resources available to innovators.
By bringing together an international development organization, a major telecoms player like IHS Towers, and key academic institutions, the Ilorin Innovation Hub offers unparalleled access to tools, expertise, and networks, furthering its status as a leader in sustainable, global innovation partnerships.
The Makerspace promises vast opportunities for young innovators, entrepreneurs, and students across Kwara, reinforcing the Hub’s mission to foster a vibrant ecosystem of innovation and technological advancement.
Powered by IHS Towers, the Ilorin Innovation Hub is a premier center for technology and innovation in Kwara State, committed to empowering youth and entrepreneurs through tech-driven education, innovation, and digital literacy.
